Nelima and Gathoni
Challenge
How might we shift norms around family planning during the Covid-19 pandemic using edutainment?
Outcome
Khanga Rue created and produced a film called “Nelima and Gathoni”. The film follows two best friends as they try to navigate relationships, work, and life during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The approach
Edutainment has proven to be a powerful tool to affect change and shift norms. Working with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical medicine, along with some of Kenya’s most talented writers, actors and directors, we crafted a moving story, divided into eight chapters. The film was used in randomized behavioral studies by the LSHTM before being released online to the public.
