Challenge
How might we convince off-grid populations to embrace good quality solar power solutions?
Outcome
We designed a social normalization campaign called Ng’aa na Sola, which collected stories from across Tanzania and used both traditional and non-traditional channels.
The approach
Tanzania has millions of people who still live off the national grid. For this segment of the population, solar products are transforming their way of life. Our challenge was to not only promote solar energy, but to educate the population on which solar products meet the quality standards of Lighting Africa.
Research showed that the biggest influencer on purchasing decisions were neighbors. So we created a campaign called “From One Neighbor to Another” that sought to spread the word, literally, from one neighbor to another. See our case study below.

Much of the content from the Sister Pack is repackaged through short, punchy, TikTok style tutorial and testimonials by former TAA youth leaders and other young girls.
